My Neighbor's Kitchen was a popular column that appeared in newspapers in Illinois, Indiana and Michigan, with a total readership of approximately 2.5 million. Each one started with a topical essay and segued into a cooking and nutrition column.
A suprise phone call from one of the Indiana editors who carried my column, My Neighbor's Kitchen made my day.
He said, "We did a survey of our readers and I just had to call and tell you that we found that more men read your column than than read the sports page."
"What?! I didn't know that many men cook," I said.
"I don't believe they do," he replied, "they just really like your essays."
This book, Remembering My Neighbor's Kitchen, includes 72 of those essays, some short stories, poetry and, of course some recipes. A total of 360 pages of philosophy and fun. The women, as well as the men, liked my essays and I think they would have also like the short stories and poetry. These writings bring up some qquestions such as:
- Have you ever wondered where those transparent hills are?
- Have you mastered the art of "as yous"?
- Have ever have days when the Nissies and the Gremlins run amok?
- What does it mean when it says, "the bounds of your habitation are set?"
- Do you know what it means "to go walkabout"?
Have a look at some new thoughts and enjoy some laughs. So far readers have made such comments as "captivating, fun, thought provoking, hilarious, a real page turner, can't put it down, a fun read, and thank you for the stimulating thoughts."
it's an easy, fun read.
