THE CHIMES OF RESDORN - Reviewed
THE CHIMES OF RESDORN The Brenev Conspiracy and The Crystals.
A refreshing new voice is what you get in DonnaLee Wheeler’s debut novel. It is science fiction with a typical setting remote in time and space, but its major characters are very much today’s earthlings like ourselves. A rattling good story of good vs. evil, of conflict on a galactic scale between freedom and tyranny and lots of fascinating characters with inventive names of Dickensian quality.
The author has given us a page-turner without resorting to scenes of gratuitous graphic sex, grisly violence or gutter language. Her readers will find themselves longing for the promised sequel

Just finished Book Three, Kalleni Beyond and can only say it is a very good read. It has vivid scenes and convincing dialogue. There are a goodly number of well drawn characters, all of them interesting and some of whom stay with you like new found friends.
Constructed as a series of sharply cut episodes, some of which are crystalline vignettes, it moves along quickly but clearly. Especially Selene, who is favored with stretches of interior monologue. She is the heroin but is surrounded by several strong characters all of whom are more round than flat.
The plot is straight forward and convincing. The “story” is one we can all relate to – piracy, trade, age old family business, old age, medical research, nursing home, space travel and, of course, Good Guys versus Bad Guys.
The requisite technology is handled with clarity and the appropriate use of futuristic terminology. This book is tailor-made for a movie. The script writers would have lots of dialogue that needs little or no altering.
Looking forward to Book Four

I was surprised to learn that Mrs. Wheeler did all of the research for the book herself. She moved the plot along very well and the suspense kept me reading long past my bedtime.
Her character development worked well and as a female, I was glad to see a female as protagonist, but one who worked well with allies and was not an over-riding “feminist”.
One comment I have heard over and over is that there is not gratuitous sex or violence and that anyone in the family from middle school age to great-grandparents can read it without feeling titillated. Readers are supposed to have imaginations and while there is conflict and violence and a love story, your imagination can take you where it will.
Mrs. Wheeler has put together a very readable book with plausible science, other world governments and daily lives being lived in a hostile environment.
I am certainly looking forward to Mrs. Wheeler’s next book which, I understand, is a continuation of the Resdorn story. I am re-reading the “Chimes of Resdorn” in hopes of seeing the sequel soon.

I found THE CHIMES OF RESDORN, The Brenev Conspiracy and The Crystals, by DonnaLee Wheeler a must read and a real page turner. It reads like a Tom Clancy novel, but with much more imagination, twists and turns. You don’t have to be a Sci-Fi fan to enjoy this book, just someone who enjoys a really well written book.
